Artist's Description
Illustrator Harry Garnet Kelly (1896-1967) was commissioned by the State Tourist Advisory Board to create scenes of Tasmania that would entice visitors to attend the "Back to Tasmania Carnival" in November of 1926. Kelly employed a rich purple and gold palette to depict the Du Cane Range, with Lake Marion in the foreground, a powerful image with bold blocks of color. The carnival turned out to be one of the most successful tourism campaigns in the state's history.
